Hong Kong Academy of Law

The Hong Kong Academy of Law organised 29 courses and seminars by webinars in September which were attended by over 2,500 participants. 

One was the “Challenges of InsurTech” held on 15 September. Mr. Jan Buschmann, Associate of Debevoise & Plimpton, introduced the key legal and regulatory issues on the current uses of InsurTech, including parametric insurance with Blockchain-based smart contracts, online sales platforms of insurance products and emerging regulation of Big Data and data analytics in insurance. This seminar attracted over 170 participants.

Another seminar was “Emerging Technology” held on 23 September. Mr. Patrick Kirby, Technologist, Corporate Innovation Advisor, Transformation Catalyst, Pinnacle Lead Consulting Limited, provided an overview of the current technology trends in Legal Tech including cloud, machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotic process automation and blockchain, and their implications for the legal profession. This seminar attracted over 180 participants.
