The University of Law Welcomes New Students to Their Law Programmes

On 28th September 2020, The University of Law (ULaw) opened its doors to the new cohorts of students studying their programmes. The whole week was spent welcoming and inducting students to the part time and full time Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and Master of Arts in Law (MA Law) courses.

The welcome and inductions were lead by Aruna Verma, Associate Professor and Programme Director at The University of Law Hong Kong Campus. Aruna was “happy to see new faces embarking on their legal careers” Aruna was joined by Annie and Chris Tang from Star Anise who will be providing careers drop in and webinar service to our students as part of the increased offering at ULaw Hong Kong.

The students were also told about how they could engage in various competitions and skills workshops including how to negotiate, how to conduct client interviewing as well as the Vis East Moot. Students have already set up a team for the Vis East Moot.

Probono Hong Kong were also present and they provided details of how the students could get involved with pro bono work.

As part of ULaw’s commitment to their students and preparing them for practise, ULaw has created a tailored programme which gives their students a greater insight into themselves and into the way law firms work and what they want and expect from their trainees. The programme focuses on helping students identify their strengths and weaknesses and through this how to build upon the areas that need further development and to build further upon their stronger areas. The first workshop for this programme will be led by John Watkins, Director of Employability at ULaw.

After our successful launch of our Mentoring Scheme last year, ULaw told students about the scheme and how they could apply for a mentor. This is a great opportunity to network and get guidance from leading practitioners in Hong Kong.

Students are very much looking forward to a private tour of the Court of Final appeal which will take place later this year.

Our Speaker Series continues with our next speaker on 30th November 2020. Please visit our website for further details.
