The Law Society co-organised an IBA Conference entitled “The Fundamentals of International Legal Business Practice” with the IBA Young Lawyers’ Committee (“YLC”) and the IBA Asia Pacific regional forum for young members of the Law Society, trainee solicitors and registered foreign lawyers on 2 September.
The programme was designed to provide young lawyers with the legal and practical training required in dealing with multijurisdictional legal issues. The President kicked off the event with a keynote speech followed by a full day training for delegates from Hong Kong as well as from the Asian Region.
The programme covered topics on the structuring of a cross-border transaction and managing a deal that’s gone wrong both in the context of acquiring a Hong Kong publicly listed company by a UK company. During the last part of the programme, an interactive and informal session on five essential business skills that every lawyer needs was held.
The event concluded with a cocktail reception. It was a good way to wind down after a full day of training sessions. And, more importantly, it was a good opportunity for the delegates and IBA and Law Society representatives to get to know each other and strengthen our friendship with members of the international legal community. The Law Society would like to sincerely thank all moderators and speakers for taking the time out of their busy schedule to share with us their insight and experience. We look forward to seeing everyone again at our next event!
