The Law Society co-organised a breakfast session with the Hong Kong Bar Association on 26 September on the occasion of the IBA Annual Conference held in Seoul. The session was on “Hong Kong’s Unique Role as an Asian International Legal Hub under ‘One Country, Two Systems’”. It focused on how the principle of “One Country, Two Systems” supports the international practice of Hong Kong lawyers in cross-border investment and dispute resolution both locally and globally.
Apart from the representatives of the Law Society and the Bar Association, Secretary for Justice Ms Teresa Cheng also joined the panel and shared her insight with over 100 participants. Our speakers also took the opportunity to reassure the international community that the recent public order events in Hong Kong have not affected the preparation of the 32nd LAWASIA Conference and other activities to be held in Hong Kong later in the year.
In addition, the Law Society signed a Memorandum of Understandings (“MOU”) with the Seoul Bar Association during this trip. Fruitful exchanges were also made at various meetings with overseas lawyers associations and legal organisations during the occasion to renew friendship and discuss possible future collaborations.
