At the invitation of Hong Kong Council on Social Service (“HKCSS”), the Law Society partnered with them on their “Governance Connect Program” (“the Program”) with a view to further assisting NGOs to strengthen their governance capacity.
The “Governance Engagement Day” connecting volunteering Law Society members and board members of participating NGOs was successfully held on 11 July. Following the opening speech by Ms. Irene Leung, Vice Chairperson of HKCSS, President Melissa Pang addressed the importance of compliance in NGOs and wished the Program all success in her welcome remarks.
The Program has successfully matched volunteer lawyers as honorary legal advisors to eight small to medium- sized NGOs which provide assistance to target groups including chronic patients, people with mental health problem / intellectual disabilities and women / children from grass-root families.
